Naxalite activities brought under control: IGP Rao

KARWAR, MARCH 13 - Karnataka's Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Sathyanarayan Rao has claimed that police has successfully brought under control Naxalite activities in the western range, following the encounter with naxalite leader Divakar.

Interacting with reporters during his official visit to Karwar district, Rao informed that the police on Sunday had arrested Chennamma of Hemmige-Haveri, an active member of the Naxal group in Amasebail in the jurisdiction of Shankar Narayan police station in Chikkamangalore district.
"To motivate the villagers to keep away from joining the naxal groups, police has staged over 30 dramas in the naxal prone areas, besides arranging occasional training workshops in Chikkamanglore, so that the  youths get engaged in self employment activities," Rao said.
In a bid to stop terrorists from transporting arms via the sea route, the IGP said the police is closely co-ordinating with the Coast Guard.
To another query, Rao informed that an investigation is underway into the recent attack on the police by a group of army men at the Karwar railway station.
He denied allegations that police was under political pressure to release Inaytulla Shabandri from Bhatkal, who was arrested under the Goonda Act. "We have to obey the orders of our senior officers," IGP Rao said.
Commenting on investigations into the assassination of BJP leader Timmappa Naik of Bhatkal, Rao claimed that the information gathered during the the investigation was inconclusive and added that the police had an uphill task to identify the killers.
Rao was confident that adequate security has been posted at the sensitive Kaiga nucleur plant. We have provided police force to KPC to protect all the hydro-electric dams in the district.  Herald
